After
many trials and tribulations ordering organic/natural skin care items
online or scanning shelves of my local pharmacy, I finally figured out
the products that work for me.
When searching for skin care
products, I aim for one that has the least amount of ingredients, all of
which I know what they are. The Book: No More Dirty Looks can help educate you on all
the chemicals in your cleaning routine and which ones to avoid the most. Remember that your skin is your largest organ. It protects your body, but it can also be a point of entry for chemicals. It's not just what you eat or drink that affects your health. Just like your body has to digest what you put into your belly, your body has to process what you are putting on your skin.
I
tend to lean towards products that are made in other countries, such as
Germany (Weleda brands) because they seem to have stricter guidelines on
skin care. Or, potentially just higher morals of what they sell. I
don't mean to be 'product-ist' or prejudiced against my own country (USA), but this is
what I've discovered. Even brands like Burt's Bees have ingredients
that I do not want to use everyday such as phenoxyethanol, which is a preservative used in a lot of skin care products.
Hint: if
you can barely pronounce it, it can't be good for you. Or, it's
certainly not a 'natural' product. Now in comparison to other products on the shelves, Burt's Bees is a more natural alternative. I just prefer to not
solely rely on them for my "combination" skin, that also can be "sensitive" as well.
Face wash:
I
have two that I love. Weleda Gentle Cleansing Milk is soft and soothing. Its
one fault is that it doesn't always do a great job getting off more stubborn
makeup, so it tends to be part of my morning ritual.
I discovered this Aloe-Herb Facial Cleanser and now buy it directly from amazon. It has a natural scent that I find calming. It works great on make-up and one bottle used sparingly has lasted me almost 4 months.
Face lotion:
I enjoy using Weleda's Iris Hydrating Facial Lotion for daytime. It's definitely a smaller sized
tube, but takes some time to forge through. I like the fresh
scentless scent.
I love this Organic Argan Oil for nighttime. I, like
many was hesitant to use oil on my face but since starting I will never
look back. I buy the 4 ounce amount and can use it quite sparingly,
lasting what seems as though forever (I just checked my amazon account and bought this size over one year ago and still have lots to go through!) I used to get dry, flaky skin in the winter, but since using this oil, no more!
